Last Wednesday, a teenage gunman opened fire on an elementary school in South Carolina. In an emotional funeral, a six year old boy was recently laid to rest surrounded by his favourite superhero’s.
By the request of the family, all attendees were asked to wear superhero outfits to remember Jacob- who was dressed as Batman as he was buried.
In an interview, his Great Aunt said:
“We want to honor Jacob, celebrate Jacob, in a way he would love. He always wanted to be a superhero”.
It is reported that one of Jacob’s classmates and a teacher were injured during the shooting. However, they were released from hospital later that day. One of his classmates, Lily, said that “Jacob was really sweet, and knew a lot about Jesus.”
During a eulogy, someone said:
“Out of this community, the world is seeing how to do it right and the only reason you’re able to do it right is because you’ve learned from the best and that’s a six-year-old boy.
We’re not here to mourn, we’re here to celebrate. My message to all of us here today is take what we’ve learned from Jacob , let it make you a better husband, a better father, a better brother, a better sister, a better everything.
May a six-year-old boy become such a part of our lives that this community shows the rest of the world what hope is all about.”
Our deepest sympathies and thoughts go out to Jacob’s family and friends at this sad time. RIP.
