Who would do the same?
Guy is given unlimited money – spends it all on cars, hookers, drink and drugs
Picture the scene, you’ve just lost your job, your high-school sweetheart, and you’re struggling to pay rent. Boom, you have unlimited money – the bank have mistakenly failed to set an overdraft limit! Time to be sensible and fess up, or at least invest? Nah. Cars, hookers, drink and drugs.
That’s exactly what happened to Luke Moore from Australia who realised after the bank kept on paying his mortgage for him. He then started to take money out. Lots of money. Over the course of 2 years, he had taken out almost $2 million (yes, million) dollars.
I’ve often thought about what I’d do if I’d won the lottery. Maybe exchange my Ferrari 106 for a nicer model. By Ferrari I mean Peugeot, but the engine’s broken so it sounds about the same…and my hand-made speakers are on fire. Literally. They set alight whilst I was blaring out ‘A Milli’ by Lil Wayne. The irony wasn’t lost on me.
Luke bought an Alfa Romeo 156, a Hyundai Veloster, and a $36,000 Maserati.
He then moved to Gold Coast, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on strippers, alcohol and drugs…and a fishing boat. He even managed to acquire a £10 note from Banksy, a signed Michael Jordan shirt and a signed Drum skin by Amy Winehouse.
To be honest, it sounds like he had a pretty sweet time. But, strangely, $2,000,000 debt doesn’t go unnoticed, and so he was arrested and sentenced to between 2 to 4 years in prison! Though, he brushed up on his law and got out in 6 months.
Would he do it again? Nope. Apparently the problems caused to his family wasn’t worth a “couple of good months with strippers and cocaine”.
I’d have to agree with him that it was a bit stupid. Though, at least he’s got a story to tell the relatives over Christmas dinner.
