Having travelled around the world with P&O myself, it is nice to see that they are always up for a laugh. Although the Cruise liner company risks naming their new ship “Boaty McBoatface”, it seems to be a great publicity stunt.
In a recent announcement, P&O cruises announced that they will host a naming contest amongst the public for their new ship due to set sail in 2020.
As many of you will remember, the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) tried something similar- which resulted in a highly successful PR campaign. Although “Boaty McBoatface” was not the winning entry, fans were left satisfied after the onboard submarine for the ship inherited the name.

Officially, the voting does not commence until early next year. However, “Brian Ferry”, “Cruisey McCruiseface”, and “Shippy McShipface” are already some of the popular suggestions.
