Skins is Celebrating it’s 10 Year Anniversary…

Wow, I feel old. Skins was a guilty pleasure for me even when I was the right age for it. I remember watching it and absolutely loving it…then my parents would walk into the room and I’d have to say: “I have no idea what this is, it was just on the TV when I turned it on”. Every time.

10 years on (Skins premiered on 25th Jan 2007!) and it may finally be time to watch it without being judged! What I loved was that it seemed every teenage issue imaginable was presented: relationships, bullying, substance abuse, mental illness, family problems and sexuality.

But what have our favourite characters (from the first two series) been up to since?

Nicholas Hoult played the ego-centric, manipulative, but well-loved, Tony. Since Skins, he has starred in X-Men films, Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Clash of the Titans, and the Oscar-nominated drama ‘A Single Man’. He’s recently been promoting his new indie film ‘Newness’.

Whilst this is all impressive, what tops that is that he dated Jennifer Lawrence for four years after meeting on the set of X-Men: First Class! Legend.

Dev Patel played Anwar Kharral, and has been smashing it ever since. He was the lead in Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, and has starred in The Last Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Last Airbender, HBO drama The Newsroom, and is an Oscar nominee currently thanks to his performance in Lion!

Hannah Murray played the troubled Cassie who suffered from an eating disorder. She has since been starring in many stage dramas and recently played Gilly in Game of Thrones!

She has also won awards at Tribeca Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival for the indie films God Help The Girl and Bridgend. Her next role is based on the 1967 Detroit Riots, in which she’ll be acting alongside John Boyega, Jack Reynor and Will Poulter (out August 2017).

April Pearson played the love interest, Michelle (who both Mike and Tony longed for). She has since acted in the British Horror Film ‘Tormented’ and is currently starring in a play called ‘Threesome’…a ‘late night comedy just for adults’. Sounds interesting!

Joe Dempsie played the fun-loving and drug abusing Chris. He has acted in numerous one off dramas such as Southcliffe and Murder: Joint Enterprise as well as Radio drama Waiting for the Boatman. Perhaps the most popular, however, is his role as Gendry in Game of Thrones!

Mitch Hewer was the tap-dancing, promiscuous character, Maxxie. He has since been in the West End Musical ‘Never Forget’ before briefly moving to LA to make a name for himself there. He now spends the majority of his time as a vlogger with his own YouTube channel, but is currently preparing for an unknown new role.

Finally, Mike Bailey, played the awkward and shy Sid. He has since starred in the Channel 4 drama 1066: The Battle for Middle Earth and the film We Are The Freaks. He is currently acting in a web series called Hers & History which portrays a young couple’s decision to be honest about their previous sexual encounters.

I’m actually so tempted to re-watch it…though it will definitely be even more awkward now!
