McDonald’s have officially announced that their Mascot, Ronald McDonald, has gone into hiding due to the recent clown sightings around the world.
After the phenomenon was first reported in the USA, it quickly spread across the world to the UK, Australia, and Brazil. The craze that involves people dressing up and scaring people within their local city has gone viral due to the massive amount of attention received on social media.
“McDonald’s and franchisees in local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful with respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being,” a statement said.
People within London, Manchester, and other cities around the country have reported clown sightings in their local area- with some live streaming their experience on Facebook. This news comes just hours after it was reported that a clown in Bournemouth threatened someone with a meat cleaver in a Tesco car park.
